The Story

Prior to being Public House, there was WeRoast Coffee, a small cafe and coffee roaster just down the street from Public House’s current location on Front Street in Lincoln, RI. While the initial focus for WeRoast was the coffee roasting aspect of the business, after being open for just a few years, that focus organically shifted to one of community. When the opportunity arose to move to a bigger and better space to better serve the local community, it seemed fitting to change the cafe space to better reflect this. WeRoast became Public House.

Public House no longer roasts coffee but instead sources its coffee from local Rhode Island roasters. In addition to the specialty cafe staples that WeRoast had, Public House would also expand its food offerings and also open a bar serving cocktails, wine, and beer in the evening.

Coffee, Cocktails, & Community

…these aspects would be the focus of the new Public House.

But one of the physical aspects of WeRoast that was consistently remarked on and adored by the community was the wall of plants in the entrance of the cafe. While Public House wouldn’t bring the exact wall of plants with it, plants were still to be a focus of the space, and scattered throughout it.

I wanted to bring these different aspects into the logo. Coffee, cocktails, and community through its appreciation of the plant wall and plants that existed during the tenure of WeRoast.
